How I Do a Monthly Reset - My System to Plan and Organize my Life 30 Days at a Time - 11 things I do at the end of each month

The end of a month is usually quite an exciting time for me. On one hand I am curious to know how did I do last month while on the other hand I am really excited to set new goals and intentions for the next 30 days. It's crazy how much you can achieve, change or create in just a month.

With lots of trial terror I have set up a system which works for me and keeps me sane during the ups and downs of daily life. Let’s talk about it.

1. Review the last month

Reflecting over the past month’s achievements and failures is a great starting point for me. I sit down and write down what worked for me and what not. Then I review my monthly goals and in the last work on my finances. It gives me a clear idea of what I need to do exactly next.

2. Set goals

Once I am clear about my intentions I write down my monthly goals in various categories like personal, work/business, family/relationships, home/house, learning/study, spirituality and finances. I make sure my goals are SMART.

3. Choose what I want to improve

This is my list of things, habits where I want to improve myself. Examples would be to ‘spend more and mindful time playing with my kids’, ‘meditate for 1 hour daily’. I use a 30-day tracker and daily reminders set on my phone for these.

4. Fill in monthly calendar

This step is extremely crucial for me, who wants to miss out key dates after all, right? I write down important dates like birthdays and anniversaries, my kids’ school events, appointments and all date-specific tasks and deadlines in my monthly calendar. It gives me peace of mind and plenty of clarity about further planning.

5. Write down my daily routine

I change my daily routine on monthly basis keeping in mind my goals and what worked or not. Making space for a new project or a new study schedule and such demand tweaking here and there.

6. Meal/menu plan

One of the most crucial job I do as a homemaker is to feed my family yummy but nutritious food. I pick out some recipes (favorites and new to try) and then put them in my weekly menu planners corresponding to MeatVeggiesGrains days. I also pick out the places to eat/takeaway food from. Lastly I take a quick look at my pantry and make a grocery list (and sometimes order most of the items next).

7. Wardrobe plan

Planning what to wear for the next 30 days takes some time but it makes your life sooooo easy, believe me. I check the weather forecast for the whole month and then take out all the pieces that would work with the temperatures. Then I start putting together outfits and assign them to days while looking at my monthly calendar with appointments, events etc.

8. Deep clean house

As a homemaker I need to keep it tidy and organized. While daily and weekly cleaning keeps the house presentable I make sure to dedicate the last week of every month deep cleaning every nook and cranny. It gives me a fresh, clean start for the next month.

9 Do the monthly/seasonal decor

As a creative it is very easy to get bored easily so I make sure to change around home decor every now and then to keep it interesting. I decorate according to season, events, current mood/vibes, or following new trends.

10. Do digital decluttering/organizing

We tend to accumulate a lot of digital junk over time and if it gets out of hand things get so messy and hard to find. At the end of each month I go through my phone and laptop etc. to delete all unnecessary files. Then I transfer, organize, back up all the data including photos, videos and important work/personal files and documents. I label all folders so they are easy to find and access.

11. Choose my recreational activities

This is one of the best things I always treat myself with. At the end of each month I choose books, movies, TV series, podcasts, YouTube videos, fun & relaxing activities that will keep me happy for the next 30 days.

Monthly planning, no doubt, can take a lot of time but it is worth it. Once you are done with the whole process things get very easy for you for the whole next month. I take it as an excellent opportunity to reset and refresh my life. What about you? Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
